Thirty years on dialysis - still exploring life

A transplant, not working out the way I wanted, still became the breakthrough moment in my life. My name is Wojciech Rosanowski and I have decided to live my life to the fullest.

I started haemodialysis treatment in 1985. At that time the method was not as widely available in Poland as it is today and despite my severe condition, my qualification for dialysis was not easy because of a very limited number of places in the few clinics. However, I finally got in due to the fact that I was young and had a 2-year-old son.

My life obviously changed dramatically and everything became subordinated to my treatment, sometimes taking up to 12 hours a day. But from the very beginning I could always count on my family and friends, which made my way back to a normal life much easier, even if there were times when my poor state of health influenced the relationships inside the family.

After a year of treatment, I was offered a chance for a transplant, unfortunately it did not work out. Yet it became the breakthrough moment in my life — I decided to find out more about the disease and to adhere to the doctor’s recommendations.

Despite the limitations, I decided to live my life all the way and go back to work. My life improved significantly due to constant progress in dialysis therapy and the opening of new dialysis clinics.

It’s been 30 years since my life changed by the disease and the dialysis treatment. But I’m still motivated to fight. I keep setting new goals and still have a strong desire to live my life to the fullest. To live an active life without limitations, but with a team of totally dedicated doctors and nurses fighting with me - one hundred percent.
